Buckboost IC(升降壓IC) 的特色就是 Vin 可以比Vout 高 也可以比 Vout 低， 以前如果你的Vin 是 3.0~4.0， 你需要一個穩定的 3.3V 輸出， 通常的做法是先把電壓升到4.5V然後再降壓到3.3V，如此做法 需要兩顆IC及兩個電感 不但效率低 零件數多 佔板子的面積也大。 相對的BuckBoost IC 都可以把這些缺點改善， 也就是 Buck Boost ic的優點。

目前Buckboost IC升降壓IC最常被應用在手持式裝置， 如 GPS, Mobile Phone, Portable POS system, portable Scaner , 等有電池供電的裝置 。 在TV Tunner Card 也常使用 Buckboost IC升降壓IC。
